One Kilometer a Day. One Step at a Time.
Friday 10th AprI signed up for the 1K a day challenge for the Heart and Stroke Foundation thinking, “It’s just one kilometer. That’s basically a long walk to the fridge.”
Turns out… it still requires effort.
But that’s kind of the point.
This challenge isn’t about crushing workouts or pretending I’ve suddenly become some ultra-disciplined fitness guy. It’s about doing something small, every day, that actually means something. One kilometer. No shortcuts. No excuses. Just showing up.
Heart disease and stroke affect way more people than we like to think about. Most of us know someone who’s been impacted, or will be. That’s what made this feel worth doing. Not because it’s impressive, but because it’s consistent.
And if I’m being honest, as a parent, this hits a little harder. You start realizing you’re not just responsible for yourself anymore. You’ve got people watching you, learning from you… including whether or not you get winded walking up a slight incline.
So yeah, I’m doing this to support a serious cause. I’m also doing it because if one kilometer a day humbles me this quickly, I probably needed it.
If you want to support, donate, or even join in, it actually makes a difference. And if nothing else, you’ll gain a new respect for distances you used to call “not that far.”
At the end of the day, it’s simple. One kilometer. Every day.
And maybe… slightly fewer unnecessary trips to the fridge to balance it out.
