WALKING 1K A DAY - SUPPORT MY TEAM!
I will be participating in the Heart and Stroke 1K a day in May event to help raise money for research and advancement in the Heart & Stroke space.Â
I am walking for my 16 year old daughter, Stella, who at 13 years old underwent complicated open heart surgery, correcting a congenital heart condition - she is absolutely THRIVING today and so much of that has to do with early detection, forward thinking cardiac physicians and excellent care.
We all know someone who has lived with cardiac related issues - lets walk together to raise funds so that life saving developments in research can help prevent and in some case cure these medical conditions!
Walking 1 km a day might sound modest, but it actually delivers a range of real, cumulative benefits!
Daily walks support cardiovascular health by helping your heart pump more efficiently, lowering blood pressure over time, and contributing to better circulation. It also gently burns calories, which can support weight maintenance or gradual fat loss. While 1 km isn’t intense, it still engages muscles in your legs, core, and even posture muscles.
Walking is strongly linked to reduced stress and improved mood. It encourages the release of endorphins and can help clear your head, especially if you’re outdoors. Regular movement like this is also associated with reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression.
The BEST thing about 1 km a day is that it’s easy to stick with! Building a daily habit matters more than doing something extreme once in a while. That consistency can improve long-term fitness and make it easier to scale up later.
Walking is low-impact, so it’s gentle on joints while still helping maintain mobility and flexibility. Over time, it can reduce stiffness and support joint health, especially compared to being sedentary.
Daily movement can improve overall energy levels and help regulate your sleep cycle. Even light activity signals your body to stay more active during the day and rest better at night.Â
SO many amazing reasons to be walking 1K a day!
See you outside!Â
Thanks for your support!Â
