My Why

Saturday 18th Apr
Simple answer... my Mom.
My Mom is one of the strongest women I know.  For so many years she was the care taker for well.... it seemed like everyone but herself.  Two years ago I got a frantic call saying they were bringing her into Lethbridge as she was having a stroke.  I was there waiting for her when she arrived.  I looked at her and said "Hey Mom".  And she half smiled at me and "Hello my daughter, I'm ok."  That is the kind of lady she is.  Always reassuring us that she is ok.  But I knew that she wasn't ok, but i didnt say that.  As we sat in the emergency department at CRH, she was joking with the nurses and doctors and kept apologizing for making them work so hard.  They kept telling her that it was ok and just to rest.  It was a new world for my mom.  People had to take care of her all of a sudden.  But her determination to not let this stroke slow her down any, she did everything she was told to do and her recovery has been amazing.
6 months later, I got another phone call that she is being taken to the hospital as she thinks she was having a heart attack.  Again, I met her at the hospital. As I walked in there she is sitting up on the bed with a huge smile on her face.  I said our funny greeting as we always do "Hello Mother" and she replied "Hello Daughter".  She again reassured me that she was fine.  I said to her with a big smile, "Geez Mom, there ate better ways of getting attention!"  She laughed at me at said "Yes I know, but the service her at the hospital is so great!"  We just had a chuckle.  We sat and talked for hours as she sat there patiently as other emergencies came in.  Just waiting.
Now almost two years later, she is a spunky 81 year old who you'd never know she has gone through all of this.  Her famous saying is "I may be 81, but i feel like I am 69!"
I am doing this walk in her honor.   As I said, she is the strongest woman i know.  I am so proud to be her daughter.
