🌟 I need your support! 🌟
In June 2022, at 56 years old, I had a stroke that changed everything. Overnight, I went from living a full, active life to facing challenges I never imagined. I could no longer work or enjoy the simple things I loved—hiking, fishing, boating, cooking, yard work or even playing with my dogs.
I spent four months between the hospital and two different rehabilitation facilities before I was able to come home. It was a long road, and in many ways, it still is. But along the way, I’ve been fortunate to have the support of some incredible people who have helped me quite literally get back on my feet. I am now working with a new ABI rehab facility here in Nova Scotia called Peter's Place and the people here are helping me to get my old life back.
Recovery doesn’t happen all at once, and it doesn’t look the same for everyone. I’m not yet able to walk 1 km a day—but I’m not giving up. This May, I’m setting a goal to walk 31 km in total , one step at a time.
I’m taking part in this challenge not just for myself, but to support the work of Heart & Stroke and to raise awareness about how quickly life can change. Every step forward is something I’m grateful for—and every bit of support means more than I can put into words.
