🌟 Walking for Mom! 🌟

Our lives changed forever when Mom’s stroke occurred in October 2025. Since then, we have learned how valuable it is to have any resources available… and they are limited at times. There is so much more we can do as a community. Every donation, big or small, brings us one step closer learning more to help someone recover and reimagine life after a stroke.

My goal is to raise $10 for each birthday mom had pre-stroke, the most recent 75th year being just a couple of weeks before our lives changed.

Will you join me in making a difference? Together, we can make every beat count! ♥️

🩺 'It helps when they actually listen' 🩺

Friday 8th May
Some changes in prescriptions and the focus of a physician who actively listens and addresses the concerns we raise has made a world of difference.  There are countless health care providers who are wonderful and we have been fortunate to find some needles in the haystack. The Unfortunate part of the story is how we started with an abundance of those who dismissed Mom ... either with a flippant remark or disregard. A lack of trust was built quickly and is proving very challenging to reverse. Hopefully, our encounters this week with people who are active advocates will help to reinstate some trust in the system.

'I don't want people to think I'm a quitter'

Tuesday 5th May
Some days are more challenging than others - and sometimes a break is necessary. A stroke is a brain injury and though I am not an expert by any stretch, my lived experience through a major concussion gives me insight, though limited in comparison to what Mom is navigating.

I remember those moments of complete fatigue and overwhelm and exhaustion coupled with the emotional turmoil of the situation. Since the health 'care' system of rehabilitation 'quit' on her at the peak point of her recovery, she is forever concerned that she will be kicked out of physio, home support, doctors.. you name it. That added stress compounds the physical exhaustion.

I'm not quitting on her and these quick walks that I'm able to take as a midday break are simple but a huge luxury in the sense that I can walk. I encourage you to take a walk break today and enjoy the simple luxury of movement.  Taking a break is not quitting.  Taking a pause on Rec Centre group physio to keep strength for individual physio the next day is not quitting - it's wisdom. We will keep showing up and we are not quitting.
