My Reason
Wednesday 29th Apr
May is Stroke Awareness Month… and this one hits different for us.
Less than a year ago, our lives changed in a way we never saw coming. One moment we were just living our normal day-to-day life, and the next, everything shifted. My partner had a stroke at 39. No warning, no time to prepare—just a moment that divided our lives into before and after.
I’ve spent years as a nurse, caring for stroke patients some of those years, but nothing prepares you for when it becomes your home, your person, your reality.
There were long days in the hospital, hard conversations, small wins that felt huge, and moments that brought us to our knees. And then there was the life waiting for us after… the adjusting, the learning, the patience, the strength we didn’t know we had to find.
We’re still in that part. The rebuilding. The figuring it out as we go.
So this May, I’m walking every day.
Not just for awareness—but for him. For us. For every family whose life has been changed in an instant. For the ones in hospital rooms right now, and the ones learning how to live a new version of their life.
If you’ve ever wondered how quickly everything can change… it’s faster than you think.
If you’re able, I’m raising funds for Heart & Stroke in support of research, care, and prevention—because this is something that touches more lives than we realize.
Every step I take this month means something.
And if you’d like to support, donate, or even just share this, it truly means more than I can put into words.
