My Heart

Sunday 1st Feb
In 2016, I suffered a seizure/stroke while at work.  I had a cluster of blood vessels tangled together that were leaking blood.  Surgery followed and since then, I've had good brain health.

My Dad's story is different.  In 1996, he suffered an angina attack.  He recovered from that but then a few years ago, he learned that a heart valve needed to be replaced.  What followed was open heart surgery.  The surgery was successful!  Unfortunately, last February, he was complaining of a sore neck and arm on his right side.  He was treating it with Voltaren and Mom massaging him.  On February 23rd, he suffered a stroke at home.  He was rushed to HSC where they found a large blood clot.  He was given warfarin and a clot buster.  Nothing was helping so the doctors decided to suck the clot out via surgery.  The surgery was successful, but as he was placed on the recovery ward, he suffered a brain bleed.  He was pronounced brain dead.  My Mom and my 2 sisters and I were devastated.  In a moment, our lives were changed forever.  Dad's family was able to come to the hospital and say their goodbyes.  We all went home to rest for a bit and Dad was left by himself.  It was then that he passed away.

I'm doing this fundraising for him...and a little for me.  Stroke can happen to anyone at anytime.  Research is so important for prevention, recovery and treatment.
