My 'Why'
To be transparent, fundraisers like these have never really been my thing.  In a university course, history of medicine seminar, we discussed how corporations use  illnesses and disease fundraisers to make a profit or often glamorize these events to make them seem not as dark as they truly are. This  really deterred me from wanting to support corporate fundraisers,  because these illness effect real people.Â
The Heart and Stroke Foundation  is different. After having heart disease and strokes so imbedded in my life, it made me want to do something, even if makes a small impact. This fundraiser doesn’t glamorize these illness, but gives people the opportunity to exercise and donate to a cause actually seeking to help those who suffer.Â
In December of 2024, my mom suffered a stroke. Seeing her for the first time and seeing her not even know what year it was, honestly was heartbreaking. This stroke changed not only my moms life but my whole families life. Â She lost the ability to drive, a lot of her cognitive skills, and most importantly the life she has before this. A family should not have to watch a core member lose part of themselves. This illness is absolutely awful, and there is no warning to when or who it could happen to.Â
I am doing this fundraiser for my mom, and for the other families who share the same  loss and trauma.Â
If you can’t donate, please educate yourself on what you can do to make an impact in other ways. If you can donate, I appreciate it more than you will know.Â
