🌟 I am walking 90km this month for heart and stroke 🌟

I had bypass surgery 4 weeks ago (Aug 10th).
On June 17th while out for one of my runs, I noticed I was getting a radiating feeling from the middle of my chest. Turns out it was angina. I initially thought it was heartburn but decided to get it looked at. I ended up getting a stress test followed by an Angiogram. Final diagnosis was blocked arteries. BTW, I didn't have high cholesterol or high blood pressure. I ate pretty clean and I did lots of running and weight training. My point is, it was very difficult to figure out that anything was wrong. I am very lucky they found the issue before something bad happened. Looks like it was my genetics.
On August 10th I had bypass surgery. Its been 4 weeks since my surgery and I feel like I have a new positive outlook on life. I am a real estate agent and if I could speak in real estate terms, I would say have a new lease on life :)
As part of my recovery, I am going to try and do the 90km challenge that Heart and Stroke has put on. I'm actually aiming to have the 90kms done by the 21st. The same day I start Cardiac rehab. I want to be in the best condition I can be when I start cardiac rehab. My goal is to be able to run a 5k before the end of the year so that's why I want to work on this.
Note: The picture of me with headphones was from June 17th. The day I went for my last run before deciding to look into my issue further.
I just want to thank my amazing surgeon, the awesome nurses at St Mary's and everyone who has helped me get to this point.
Special thanks goes to my wonderful wife who has been able to juggle dealing with this issue along with our real estate business. She has been absolutely incredible and I hope I have been a great patient. Its time for me to turn it around and get back to having a normal life again.
If you are thinking of making a donation I would greatly appreciate it as the Heart and Stroke foundation is now, near and dear to my heart...

Life after surgery
Thursday 3rd Sep
The biggest thing I feel after surgery (3 weeks from surgery) is having a new outlook on life. I think we all take things for granted sometimes but when you are confronted with the possibility that you could of had a heart attack, things get put into perspective very quickly. The bypass surgery that I had recently could potentially increase my longevity. So as the expression goes, life is short. No point in making it shorter so I am glad they did the bypass. Some people are unable to get the bypass and need to lower their activity and take lots of meds. The trade-off was that the surgery was invasive but hopefully the payoff will be that I won't need to limit my activity in the future. I am hoping I can go on to live a normal life. So far I feel pretty good with how everything played out. Three weeks from surgery at this point and the one thing I am looking forward to doing is being able to sleep on my side again. I know that is something simple but I haven't had a good nights sleep in a long time. Other then that I hope to be able to run another 5 k by the end of the year. But we will see how I recover first.
