My Updates

90 KM. One Year Later. One Step at a Time.

Monday 31st Aug

A Journey From Survival to Giving Back.

A year ago, my life changed in a way I never expected.

I had a heart attack.

What followed was triple bypass surgery, months of recovery, rehabilitation, medication, uncertainty, and a lot of time to reflect on how quickly life can change.

For someone who had always been focused on work, family, clients, and staying busy, suddenly the most important thing became something I had probably taken for granted for years:

My health.

The road back wasn’t overnight.

I had to slow down. I had to listen to my body. I had to rebuild my strength and confidence, one step at a time. I spent months away from work and went through cardiac rehabilitation in Ontario.

There were good days and difficult days.

But slowly, things started to change.

Walking became easier. My strength started coming back. My confidence returned. And perhaps most importantly, I began to appreciate something I had previously considered ordinary:

The ability to simply wake up, move, work, laugh, spend time with people I care about, and plan for tomorrow.

Today, I’m incredibly grateful to be in a place where I can challenge myself again.

And that’s why, this September, I’m taking on the 90 KM Challenge in support of Heart & Stroke.

90 KM With A Much Bigger Purpose

For me, these 90 kilometres aren’t simply about completing a physical challenge.

Every kilometre represents something.

A reminder of where I’ve been.

A reminder of how far I’ve come.

And a reminder that there are thousands of Canadians whose lives are affected by heart disease and stroke every year.

I know firsthand how frightening a heart-related emergency can be. I also know how important medical care, rehabilitation, research, awareness, and support are when someone’s life suddenly changes.

Heart & Stroke works to improve heart health, support survivors and families, advance research, and help prevent heart disease and stroke.

That’s a cause I can personally connect with.

Why I’m Doing This

I could have simply moved on after my recovery.

But I don’t want my experience to end with me.

If sharing my story encourages even one person to take their heart health more seriously, schedule a checkup, learn the warning signs, make healthier choices, or simply recognize that heart disease can affect people who don’t think it will happen to them—that would make this journey worthwhile.

And if the kilometres I walk can help raise funds for research, education and support, even better.

I’m not doing this because I think I’m invincible.

I’m doing it because I’ve learned just how fragile life can be—and how valuable a second chance is.

From Recovery to Giving Back

A year ago, I was focused on recovering.

Today, I’m focused on moving forward.

That difference means a lot to me.

This challenge is my way of turning my experience into something positive.

90 kilometres in September. One step at a time.

I know there will be days when the distance feels difficult. But I’ve already learned something important during my recovery:

Progress doesn’t happen all at once. It happens one step at a time.

That’s how I approached recovery.

And that’s how I’ll approach these 90 kilometres.

Will You Join Me?

You don’t have to walk 90 kilometres with me.

You don’t even have to walk a kilometre.

But you can be part of this journey.

If my story resonates with you, I would be incredibly grateful if you would consider making a donation to my Heart & Stroke fundraising campaign.

Every contribution, regardless of size, helps support a cause that has become deeply personal to me.

And if you can’t donate, sharing this story with someone you know is another meaningful way to help.

I started this journey with a heart that needed saving.

I’m continuing it with a heart full of gratitude.

90 KM. September. One step at a time.

For my recovery.

For those still fighting.

For the families affected by heart disease and stroke.

And for a future where fewer people have to experience what I did.

Thank you for being part of my journey.
