Fitness Challenge for a Cause

Tuesday 24th Mar
From  31 March 2025 - 31  March 2026 I have been on a personal fitness journey. Initially my goal was focused on weight loss only , at the time I was 285 lbs. Although I have other physical, biological and mental health issues- I’ve never focused on treating  these issues under one new lifestyle plan. I’m 57, a Canadian Armed Forces Veteran (RCR and Airborne). My go to old way of training was head down and train hard. Lift lots of weight, no pain no gain. Somewhere in those years I lost my cardio, all joints were too sore for running, even the elliptical was getting difficult.  But I was a brick sh….house. Solid!  Then I woke up and looked in the mirror and accepted some hard truths. I was on a fast path to the grave.
1 -Apr 2025 -  I consulted my Dr and did blood work to establish baseline.
2 - started dieting on my own with portion control, not eating after 8 pm
3 - Aug ‘25 joined  a local gym. Doing my own program but lifting lighter and some cardio. Down 30 lbs - now at 255 lbs
4 - Sep ‘25 more blood work - still some bad results
5 - Oct ‘25 started  group classes at gym with professional coaches - GAME CHANGER - I was always intimidated by functional fitness and hybrid training - anyone can lift weights. Functional fitness training is next level if that is your goal.
6 - Jan 2026 - I started the classes in Oct at around 240 lbs. now at 220lbs and plateauing loosing energy.  Next step in the journey- hire a Coach.  @Chrisk_the_Coach
New game changer. Learning proper body alignment awareness combined with new functional exercises for strength training, learning to run again and most important learning about nutrition.
I started a year ago at 285 lbs with the wrong mind set and attitude towards my fitness goals. I’ve learned and evolved this new lifestyle journey that  focuses on mental health, fitness, nutrition, good sleep routine 7-8 hrs a night. Each pillar has sub pillars that  when engaged and focused on contributing to some positive outcomes. I am actively training 15 hours a week following a program. I’m currently 205 lbs and am looking forward to a 2nd year of this journey.
So the reason for this long blog  - my next years goal is to complete a physical challenge each month that incorporates some fundraising for great causes. For April I will be fundraising for The Heart and Stroke for everyone and all of us who have benefited from them. If my story has inspired you to take the first step then  go ahead and SMASH the donate button if you’re able.

Thank you to my Donors
