As most of you know in 2016 I had a valve replacement done. I spent 4 months in the Heath Science Centre in Newfoundland. I arrived there in November septic very close to not making it. I had been sent home from the downtown hospital 3 times and misdiagnosed with meningitis. I actually had a bacteria infection that would affect 1 in 5000 people the way it affected me. To this day we don’t even know where I got it. The infection destroyed my valve which went through my blood stream and caused me to have 4 mini strokes. I arrived by ambulance at Health Sciwnve Centre on Sunday night, underwent intense testing and was in open heart surgery Wednesday morning. My surgery lasted over 11 hours when my cardiologist went to replace the valve he found an abscess inside my heart which he had to remove. This could’ve burst at any time and I wouldn’t be sitting here telling the story. It’s likely I had a leaky valve my whole life but because I was very active I compensated for it and it went undetected. He sat with me afterwards for hours to make sure that I was OK. I was very lucky to have the team of nurses and doctors that I had over the next four months while I stayed in the hospital. So this foundation is pretty near And deer to my heart. this was pretty scary to face at 36 years old. I think it was harder on my family than it was on me. Thank you Dr. Cory Adams. He’s my super hero. 

I know that people are struggling today and times are tougher then ever but any amount you can spare will go to a good cause. I am approaching 10 years with my valve and will need another replacement in the next 5 realistically.
