For my Alexander

Sunday 1st Feb

Today I start my 50 km walk in February for the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

This one is for my son, Alexander.

When he was just two weeks old, we were told there were three holes in his heart.
VSD. ASD. Words no parent is ever ready to hear.

The ground disappeared beneath us. The hospital became our second home.
And every day felt like holding our breath.

I can’t even explain how unfair it felt,

watching something so small fight something so big.But Alexander fought.
And the doctors, nurses, OT, physio, dietitians fought with him.
And our family and friends held us together when we were breaking.


Today, two of the holes are closed.
We still have a road ahead of us.

I’m walking because no family should have to walk this alone.
Because heart disease and stroke change lives in an instant.
And because research, care, and support are the reason my son is here today.


Every step is for him.
Every step is for hope.
